Description

This rugged, motor-actuated PVC ball valve is designed and assembled in the USA for demanding agricultural applications requiring irrigation control and facility water management. Tested to well over 100,000 cycles, BV series valves combine high-quality components for reliability that your crop can depend on.

Quality PVC Valve
The full-port PVC ball valve by Jomar Valve (New Holland, MI) is a tru-union type with interchangeable flanges for either NPT threaded pipe, or solvent weld sockets.

Industrial Actuator
High-torque Italian-made actuator from one of the largest actuator manufacturers in the world features a large motor and very strong, heavy steel gearing. Manual override knob allows operation even in the event of a power failure. 4-second travel time with 50% duty cycle rating.

BV100 valves are powered by 24VDC and do not have a minimum operation time. See manual for wiring instructions and requirements.

About Ball Valves

Irrigation Valves
How does a ball valve compare to a standard "diaphragm" irrigation valve? Diaphragm valves (such as the WX1) are widely used in irrigation applications; they are designed for water applications and are generally low-cost. The valve consists of a body, solenoid (electro-magnet) and plunger, and a rubber diaphragm with a spring. These valves work well with clean water and solutions with low solids and low biologics, but can require periodic service to maintain reliability including disassembly and cleaning. Diaphragm valves are not recommended for fluids that contain sediment or that have issues with surface build-up.

Ball Valves
Most PVC valves that people are familiar with are "ball" type valves. When the valve handle is turned, a hole in the center of the valve is opened inline with the pipe and flow through the valve can occur; otherwise flow is stopped. Ball valves are high-reliability and low-maintenance; they will not require cleaning even in harsh conditions. They also offer high flow rate and low restriction to flow with a direct path through the valve, and positive stoppage of flow in both directions. When reliability is critical, a ball-valve is the better choice.

Motorized Actuators
The BV series electric motor actuator contains a gear box and limit-switches which automatically stop the motor when it reaches the fully open or closed position. Because the BV series actuators are 3-wire type, they do not have a minimum on-time like "auto-return" type actuators (typical 30 seconds.) Failing to leave an "auto-return" valve on for the minimum time can prevent the valve from being able to close due to lack of charge in the capacitors. The minimum on-time can be problematic for irrigation schedules requiring shot times less than 30 seconds. BV series valves are automatically controlled by one of the standard controllers listed below.
